A closer look at Dracula in this series

We're here to understand Dracula a little better in this series. In this first novel Dracula is depressed. He's lived much too long and his attempts to do himself in are a bit on the comical side. Try to understand it from his point of view. He's pretty much done everything many times. He's lost many loved ones over the centuries and he's tired of it all.

How did the Master come to be? He is unable to remember much about how or when he was created. Lately, he's been having particular dreams about a cave that may or may not have been a memory from ten thousand years in the past. Is that a wooly mammoth falling off that cliff? When he tries to grasp why, when and where they just seem to fade.

He frequents graveyards staring down enviously at the dead.

Dracula is aware that New York City is under attack from what can only be called evil vampires. But he doesn't care. He's trained red sheriffs over the years, vampires that are imbued with a bit of his energy to take care of vampires that are praying on humans. But the Sheriffs are being overrun, or at the very least there is just not enough of them.

Piers Anthony, the author, is trying hard to motivated the Master to take action. But it's a risky undertaking because Dracula is not in the mood for prodding though Piers may be indeed pushing his luck.

An ancient friend of Dracula is searching for him to help him out of the strangest predicament. It becomes a source of amusement for the Master, but one of sadness as well. No one has ever seen the likes of this happening to anyone. You'll need to read the book to find out what happens.
